LP3ES (The
Institute for Economic and Social Research, Education and
Information) is a well known and reputable non-profit
organization. It was established by recognized economists
and intellectuals in 1971. LP3ES conducts community and
political education, political and social research and
publishing. LP3ES publishes the well-known social and
economic journal, Prisma which is widely read by government
officials, academics and students. LP3ES also conducts
regular public opinion polling through its survey division,
CESDA.
Along with NDI, LP3ES successfully conducted a Quick Count
for the Legislative Elections on April 5, 2004. The Quick
Count result was released within 24 hours of the election
and accurately projected the results with a margin of error
of +/- one percent. In addition, LP3ES also conducted a
Voter Attitude Survey for the Legislative Election 5 April
2004, which was able to measure the level of voter
awareness. LP3ES first experience in conducting Quick Count
was in 1997, which was conducted in Jakarta. LP3ES also did
a Parallel Vote Tabulation in West Nusa Tenggara during 1999
elections.
The National Democratic Institute for International
Affairs (NDI) is a non-profit organization working to
strengthen and expand democracy worldwide. NDI has worked in
Indonesia since 1998 and assisted many civil society
organizations to conduct election monitoring including the
Rector’s Forum and LP3ES. Since then, NDI has conducted
programming in legislative strengthening, political party
training and civil society advocacy training. NDI is a
recognized pioneer of Parallel Vote Tabulation around the
world. NDI has assisted local organizations in conducting
quick counts in 25 countries. Among them are: Albania,
Bangladesh, Belarus, Bulgaria, Burundi, Cambodia, Chile,
Croatia, Dominican Republic, Georgia, Guyana, Indonesia,
Kenya, Kosovo, Malawi, Mexico, Montenegro, Nicaragua,
Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Romania, Fed. Rep. Of Yugoslavia,
Slovakia, and Ukraine. |
